Lately, ‘Uganda Zaabu’ which literally means Uganda is gold is a common expression among members of the public. It’s supposed to mean that Uganda is endowed with natural resources, coupled with boundless opportunities.
However, in reality, the expression is simply sarcasm at how so many things seem to be going wrong.
But this has not just started now. Over the years, Uganda has lost vast sums of money in dubious deals, many orchestrated by senior government officials working hand in hand with foreign investors and others by individual members of the public although these too are often well connected to the powers that be.
In a special report tonight, Joyce Bagala looks back at numerous controversial projects contracts, deals, agreements and undertakings that have cost this country.
