Non- governmental Organizations want some provisions in the NGO act 2016 repealed on grounds that they are in human and suffocates democracy and the rule of law. This is after government issued a one-month’s ultimatum to all NGOs in Uganda to verify and validate their registration or else face closure. Dr. Livingston Ssewanyana a rights defender and also a player in the NGO world, believes section 31 of the Act that provides mandatory registration and supervision by the state denies Ugandans freedom of expression and association. But Political stakeholders describe the ultimatum as cowardly approach against democracy.
