Over the last few years, the participation of women in refugee management has been minimal. This was because most of the members of the welfare councils in the refugee settlements were men.
As a result, because many women head households, they have been forced to suffer in silence in the face of challenges that their male counterparts would probably not understand.
The tide is changing now, with more refugee women accessing education and standing in leadership positions.
