The head of the High Court’s Criminal Division, Judge Wilson Kwesiga, has this morning granted bail to Lugogo Forest Mall key murder suspect Mathew Kanyamunyu, after presenting substancial sureties.
Kwesiga granted Kanyamunyu a 10 million shillings cash bail and each of his five sureties were ordered to pay 10 million shillings non-cash.
This was the fourth time Kanyamunyu asked for bail. The first three attempts were dismissed by judges Elizabeth Kabanda and Yasin Nyanzi.
This time round, Kanyamunyu based his application on the fact that bail is his constitutional right and that he had spent months on remand without a trial kicking off.
Kanyamunyu is indicted for the murder of a social worker Kenneth Akena in November last year along the Kampala-Jinja highway in Lugogo.
He is jointly charged with his girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari and elder brother Joseph Kanyamunyu, who are out on bail.
