The country’s crime rate has been skyrocketing, and often times police is accused of slow response, and generally lack of manpower. NTV tried to understand why even with a 43,000 strong force, many police stations have 3 police officers guarding a population of 3000 people while the well connected have twice this number as bodyguards and escorts.
Because of the manpower constraints in the police, Police in February resolved to close down all police posts at village level.
And as Daily Monitor’s Andrew Bagala and I have been finding out, whereas some are entitled to escorts and bodyguards, this entitlement leaves the police strength thinner.
