Throughout the 1990s until the 2000s, President Museveni and the then President of Sudan, Omar Al Bashir, were adversaries. As Bashir financed Joseph Kony’s LRA rebel force, Museveni supported to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army, led by his friend, John Garang. With the two countries ramping up their firepower in an arms race, Khartoum and Kampala came agonizingly close to war.
