A new sub-type of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), called HIV-1 Group M, sub-type L has been discovered by a team of scientists under ABBOT, an international health care research company. The findings published in the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes drew concern from the public. Now, the Director-General of the Uganda AIDS Commission says, this is actually a breakthrough towards the development of a vaccine among other treatment methods being developed.
