Experts are advising bankers to leverage more on digitisation to close the gap and means of de-risking lending to the agricultural sector.
Of concern is the fact that commercial banks’ lending portfolio to agriculture has steadily increased over the years; from Shs518.9b in 2011 to Shs1.8 trillion in 2018.
However, the agricultural sector still remains highly repellant to the commercial lenders who experts have advised to understand the entire value chain in order to address their needs.
