Buying armoured pick up tracks for MPs will affect the economy – Economist

A senior economist Dr. Fred Muhumuza has cautioned government that the cost of implementing the plan by the president to provide security to individual MPs would be detrimental to Uganda’s economy.

On Wednesday, President Yoweri Museveni directed the finance minister to immediately secure funds to procured armoured pickup trucks to carry escorts to secure Members of Parliament.

Dr. Muhumuza argues that such expenditure would be counter productive at a time the economy is recording low growth figures and there is a cash squeeze.
