A Busia district council meeting ended prematurely on Thursday after the councilors objected to the newly elected district chairperson, Geoffrey Wandera, who was attending for the first time.
The meeting started peacefully and all was set for a harmonious session, when a council speaker Betty Ajambo reported that there had been harassment of some politicians by security operatives, during the just concluded elections.
In response, Raymond Ocheing, the councilor for western division declared that the district had no chairperson and council was not ready to entertain illegalities.
The now embattled district Chairperson Geoffrey Wandera kept writing and turning the pages of his files, as one councilors attacked him.
Ultimately, the speaker adjourned the meeting to enable the consultations on the status of the chairperson.
For his part, Geoffrey Wandera insists he is validly elected chairperson of Busia district and dismissed the councilors’ objections.
